Outer Labia Piercing

An outer labia piercing is one piercing (or most commonly a pair) that goes through the labia majora, specifically through the thicker folds of skin where hair grows.  Outer labia piercings can be placed high and low on the labia majora, depending on the wearer's anatomy and preference.

Outer labia piercings are considered ornamental rather than functional, as the jewelry is typically too far away from the clitoris to provide stimulation. Depending on the placement, a partner may feel the jewelry during penetrative sex.

Although all genital piercings are anatomy-specific, outer labia piercings are frequently able to be performed as most people with vulvas have sufficient tissue to support the piercing.

Outer labia piercings tend to take longer to heal than inner labia piercings, as the tissue being pierced is typically thicker and the piercing does not go through the mucus membrane. There is also a greater likelihood of snagging or bumping a fresh outer labia piercing during normal everyday activities, as the piercings are more exposed and less tucked away.

Although healing times vary for all individuals, these are average time frames that most clients fall into. If you are still noticing swelling around your piercing after 8 weeks, we recommend coming in for a piercing consultation so our piercer can take a look at the piercing and assess the situation.

If you prefer the look of a thicker piercing, or have had trouble healing piercings in the past and want a more stable piercing, our piercers may be able to pierce you with a larger gauge than listed above, however; for safety and healing we will not pierce with anything smaller.
